HISTORY

HISTORY
I started riding at the age of 6 and was a member of the East Sussex Pony Club. When I was 16 years old I went away to train with Marion Terry for 18 months and gained my BHSAI Exam.
This was followed by 18 months as Head Girl to International 3 Day Event Rider Colin Wares, where I groomed for him at Boekelo and Badminton 3 Day Events as well as extensively on the British Circuit, totally catching the Eventing Bug!
At 19 years old I went off to Germany and secured the job of Head Girl/Rider to top German 3 Day Event rider Claus Erhorn. I spent 4 years there, working for Claus in his 29 box yard. During this time I not only got the horses fit, but was lucky enough to travel to two European Championships, Australia to the World Championships and to the Seoul Olympics where the German Team won Team Gold and Claus was 4th individually. I also competed a number of Claus’s younger horses in Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing, learning a great deal, including breaking and producing horses for the prestigious German Sales. One of my highlights was winning Team and Individual (Young Rider) Gold medals at the Area Eventing Championships.
After returning to England in 1989, I set up Champney Equestrian. I also passed my BHSII and BHSI Exams and qualified as a BE Accredited Coach. More recently I also gained the UKCC Level 3 Coaching Certificate, and in 2017 was selected by British Eventing for the National Development Programme for Coaching Excellence. I am now also a BHS Assessor.
I have produced and ridden many horses up to and including Advanced Level in British Eventing. Unfortunately I have always had to sell my top horses to support my business. It has however been wonderful to watch the horses I have ridden and produced go onto be successful with other riders at top International Level, including them winning at Windsor (2 Star) Foxhall (USA 2 Star) Blenheim and Punchestown (3 Star) 3 Day Events as well as being well placed at 4 Star level both here and abroad. (Badminton and Kentucky USA)
I now specialize in training horses and coaching riders in Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country. I run a number of Clinics, as well as private lessons at my training centre and in the South East of England.
I also offer a bespoke full, part and schooling livery service, with limited vacancies for holiday livery. Please check out my Facilities and Livery page.
